When upgrading from an OEM to an SBC high-output alternator, you should upgrade the positive and negative (ground) cables to handle the increased current.

The SBC-GM48V-175 is a 48 Volt alternator that produces up to 175 amps. It is an air-cooled, externally regulated alternator that installs in GM AD244/DR44 OEM mounting locations or in SBC dual and triple alternator kits.

The SBC-GM48V-175 heavy-duty 48V alternator generates a maximum of 175 amps and ~20 Amps at idle (may vary between applications and configurations).

 

Designed specifically to be used with the Balmar MC-620 external regulator, the SBC-GM48V-175 can meet all charging requirements of LiFePO4 and Lithium-Ion batteries such as calibrated charging profiles and thermal and load protection.

 

This is required for optimal performance and reliability when using advanced battery systems.
